Stock reads in whatever the house sells it as — vials, pills, bottles, boxes, syringes, patches and so on — so "12 pills" says 12 pills, not 12 vials, and a box of alcohol pads reads as a box. The house sets that per product and your screens follow it automatically.
If you're on an older version than the house, nothing breaks and nothing is claimed: a unit your copy has never heard of reads as units rather than being called a vial it isn't. Update and it reads properly.
