Fixing a Date You Got Wrong

This is one screen in PepStockApp StoreGoogle Play

Almost every date in PepStock can be changed after the fact, because almost every one of them is typed later than the thing it describes. A lab result arrives on Friday for a test run on Monday. You write up an order the week after you placed it. You record a refund once you see it leave the account.

Tap the date on the record and pick the right day. What you can correct: a sale, when a refund actually went back, an expense, an owner draw, stock you removed, when an order was placed and when it arrived, a batch's expiry, a vendor's quote, stock transferred to a reseller, a deposit, a certificate's own date, when a batch failed its test, and when a recurring order is next due.

⚠️ CHANGING A DATE MOVES THE MONEY WITH IT. Your profit and loss files each record into a month by its date, so correcting one takes it out of the month it was in and puts it in the month it belongs to. Both months then report different figures than they did before — which is the point of a correction, and worth knowing before you reconcile.

An owner draw is two records — the stock leaving the shelf and the money it booked — and moving the date moves both, so your cash and your profit stay in the same month as each other.

A refund is the exception: it lands in the same month as the sale it belongs to, whatever day the money went back. Its date is there to reconcile against your bank, not to move the money between months.

Only the day changes. The time of day stays exactly as it was, so records made on the same day keep their order.

A few dates are deliberately fixed, because they record what the app did rather than what you did: when a client or vendor was added, when a file was imported, when a reseller accepted their invite. Those are the app's own record of itself.

The Android app works the same way and keeps the same times.
